Copyright Policy
Copyright. Protect the mind.
Overview
Why is copyright so important?
Copyrights protect private property of the mind. An original idea, a thought, a sentence, a book, a song an invention all come from someone's brain. Those thoughts are what make people good at what they do, and make them profitable in the world, and make it so that they can make a profit in the world. In a very real sense, if profit is the motive that the invisible hand is playing on, then the world is built on people's unique ideas, which in itself is hard work.
If those ideas, and hard work could simply be snatched up and stolen without any repercussions then those that think, the great minds of the world and talented people in their field would have no incentive to keep producing and creating new things, new ideas and producing media that stimulates the mind and expands the horizon.
The Copyright
The United States government seeks to protect those thinkers by use of the copyright. The copyright takes effect instantaneously on the web, the moment a work is posted to the world, the rights of the owner to that work are protected by law. All rights of the work belong to the owner, and should someone try to use those works without written consent, it would be unlawful.
Fair Use
Although the owner has full rights to the work, that does not mean the work cannot be used in certain circumstances. Due to the first amendment in the Constitution of the United States of America, there are "fair uses" of copyrighted material. There are four criterion to consider.
- amount of material used
- purpose of usage- comment and critique
- the nature of the material used
- the effect on the market/intrusion on market
If the amount of material being copied is large, and it has no merit for the case of being critiqued or commented on, then it is a breach of copyright. If the market has been affected by using material without permission, then that is illegal as well. Copyright laws are important to those who make this world a better place to live. By intruding on those laws, it is making it less likely for innovators to keep innovating, because it becomes less profitable.
By posting information to a web site, it is automatically copyrighted. One does not have to state so explicitly, however it may help in detering cyber-thieves. In order to keep one's materials protected, it can be either protected via password and server or one must play watch dog with all of the internet. It is not easy to keep one's information safe on the internet, so be careful what is put on the world wide web.

Exhortation to Adhere to Copyright Laws
By adhering to copyright laws, one not only is a law abiding citizen, but one also supports the individual, who working hard, and thinking hard is able to produce the works of art, literature and science that have profunctorily influenced the world for the better. By not adhering to copyright laws, one not only steals, but in a very real way makes the world a worse off place, because less new things will be created due to lessened incentives. Please be courteous of copyright laws on this site, and all others.
