The Rant
Finding a job in a small college town is difficult. I have in the past, I have been able to take up employment in this place in less than two weeks. However, this go-around has proved to be even more difficult. I must say, I am getting quite discouraged. I of course refuse unemployment money, on the premise that it devalues money, and therefore work, and the work ethic. And the premise that it is essentially taking money from people that do work. I am not a supporter of Robin Hood and his police force. However, I do feel like I am at this current time living off of the good graces of my wife, who day in and day out goes to work, and meets our immediate needs. I try to do all of the housework required to somehow compensate for not being a contributing member of society currently, but I know that it does not. I do not enjoy being un-employed, as my skills are sharp and keen, my brain is in a frenzy without a purpose. It needs work. It wants to build economic and financial models, ways to report data that self-generates, and reports incredible analysis, but alas, I have only an empty apartment and no work. I have entertained myself with a Sherlock Holmes novel, a pamphlet book on Austrian economics, scriptural material, a few episodes of Planet Earth, running (until as of late when I encountered some spinal discomfort, in which I took a few days rest, and shall now be fit for exercise once more). I have eaten little, and held precious the few hours with my wife each evening. I have applied for several positions, and have heard nothing of great significance in return, except for one, which involved a good man from Idaho Falls, and graphic design. I did however receive splendid feedback as to my portfolio. So on Monday, I will schedule myself available at the Temp Agency in Idaho Falls. Sad yes, but I will recourse to manual labor if there is no mind work left to be done. I did indeed come to college because academia is my strength, not my arms, back or knees, and yet here I am again, looking to kill my body at the sight of the dollar symbol. Very well.
Lately, some of the guys in the single's ward have been mentioning that my sideburns are getting a little long. I disagree. They are disadvantaged with disattached earlobes, where I have the attached variety. With my ears thus extending farther than those of their variety, my sideburns can extend farther. According to the honor code, sideburns may only extend to the end of the lobe and mine go extend farther, therefore I can grow my burns longer. Sorry guys, I guess you'll have to find another fatal flaw.
Have you ever noticed that a flock of birds has the same coordination as a school of fish in the sea? They must have some kind of way to communicate the synchronization. It is strange. If air were water, then birds would be like fish.
